Biofilm testing

Up to 90% of bacteria in nature exist in the form of biofilms, which provide protection through a symbiotic relationship between species and the surrounding extracellular matrix, which makes them difficult to inhibit or disperse, in addition to being less sensitive to antimicrobial agents . Biofilms have repeatedly been shown to be more resistant to antimicrobial compounds. Therefore, such tests may misjudge the concentration of active substances required to combat biofilms.
