Every year, as summer arrives, I look forward to one particular sight: the squill flowers blooming. This year, my journey began during a drive to Moshav Udim, a trip that usually takes about an hour.
As I drove along Highway 6, just before the Horshim Interchange, the first squill flowers of the season appeared in the middle of the highway. Their delicate white blossoms rising between the concrete fences separating the lanes never fail to surprise me. Instantly, the long drive was brightened by a quiet, joyful feeling.
Arriving at Udim Nature Reserve
Navigating through the traffic congestions of Netanya, I finally arrived at Moshav Udim. Silence welcomed me. I parked on Kalanit Street and took a few steps to the entrance sign of Udim Nature Reserve.
A wide path led down into the green heart of the reserve, immediately bringing back fond memories of group rides and walks here. I chose the narrow, ascending trail and, after only a short climb, the Sea squills appeared in front of me.
The Beauty of Squill Flowers Up Close
The flowers stood proudly among the dry vegetation, their white petals reaching skyward, with bees and other bugs buzzing around in the lively hum of summer. Their subtle beauty was mesmerizing, and I couldn’t help but smile. My camera captured these delicate blossoms, preserving their elegance and the serene atmosphere of the reserve.
Walking through Udim Nature Reserve, it became clear why this spot is so special. The radio played a Hebrew song that perfectly matched the mood: “Friday has arrived, and how good is my portion.” The melody carried me through the remaining drive, a gentle accompaniment to the stillness and beauty I had experienced.
There’s something truly special about stopping, looking, and allowing oneself to be moved by the natural wonders around us. The Squills of Udim are not just flowers; they are tiny beacons of joy, reminding us to appreciate the small, fleeting moments of summer.
